Family Going Swimming

The Importance of Swimming Lessons for Children

Many parents wonder if swimming lessons are really necessary for their child. After all, aren’t they just going to get wet and have fun? While that may be true, there are many other benefits that your child will gain from taking swimming lessons. Here are three reasons why your child must take swimming lessons.

Swimming is a Life Skill

Swimming is a life skill that every child should learn. Just like learning how to tie their shoes or ride a bike, swimming is something that can be used for their entire life. If your child ever finds themselves in a situation where they need to swim to safety, you will be glad they know how. The water safety skills your swimmer will learn are just as important to us as the strokes they will master.

Swimmers will gain confidence through a structure in swim lessons where their teacher move them forward at a comfortable pace. Your kid will be introduced swim safety and train in all swimming strokes. They will be required to follow the rules and be disciplined while waiting their turn in group, but at the end of the day they will find they have the ability to swim in a safe environment while learning life skills.

Swimming is Great Exercise

Swimming lessons are a great form of exercise for children of all ages. It is low impact and can be tailored to any fitness level. Swimming is also a great way to get your kids interested in exercise at an early age, which will set them up for a lifetime of healthy habits. Classes will advance to learning floating and diving, which are designed to train kids physically and train them to develop the ability to master difficult physical tasks.

Swimming is Fun!

Last but not least, swimming lessons are just plain old fun! What other activity can your child do that is both fun and good for them? Signing your child up for swimming lessons is a win-win for everyone involved. Swim activities are fun for the whole family. We teach kids ages 6 months and up, with teenagers and even students into adulthood! That's right, adults can learn too swim too, its never too late.

The American red cross learn to swim lessons we teach promote water safety where swimmers are learning at their own pace from a professional trained teacher. Classes range from private one person per lesson up to a group lesson with a maximum of 3 students to one swim instructor. Infants can enjoy our parents and tot program, where the mother or father is in the water swimming with the infants. Each type of lesson has their benefits, it is up to you to decide which plan is best to be purchased for your student.

Levirey Learn To Swim Program

The Learn to Swim program is designed for any child who has advanced through the Aquababies program or is ready to begin the process of learning to swim independently in a group setting. The recommended age for this swim lesson program is 3 to 6 years old. In the Learn-to-Swim program children will start to learn basic independent skills and body movement in a safe and comfortable environment. The instructors are trained to implement the Levirey aquatic standard and are also WSI Red Cross certified. We provide a 4 to 1 student to instructor ratio and ensure safety by using tailored made standing platforms in the water. We promise to provide some of the best swimming lessons on long island!

There are 4 main swim levels in our Learn-to-Swim program based on the child’s current ability:

  • Level 1: Children in level 1 range from being nervous or uncomfortable (not willing to put their face in the water/ new to group activities) all the way to willing to go underwater, blow bubbles and kick independently on a barbell. These little swimmers will learn at their own pace and we promote fun learning in a safe environment in order to create swimmers who enjoy swimming for a lifetime.

  • Level 2: Children in level 2 range from high level of comfort and assisted independence with the instructor and teaching tools (capable of using our teaching platform and barbell independently) to basic freestyle swimming up to five yards with breathing.

  • Level 3 : Children in level 3 work on building skills such distance, rotary breathing and the breaststroke pull and kick to transition into our upper-level swim lesson programs.

  • Level 4: Children in level 4 learn to swim butterfly and prepare for swim team.

-Key Philosophies-

It is essential that we as instructors enforce the rules and regulations important for safety around the pool.  Experienced instructors will alert students to the Lifeguards that may have special needs and it is their responsibility to enforce the rules of the pool. Our swim instructors are trained in life saving skills such as CPR and first aid, should an emergency situation ever arise in the pool.

Swim lessons are most beneficial when swim skill progress is tracked. Our swim school deck supervisors will use our evaluation techniques to document the swimming skills of the students and ensure they are progressing properly.  This aids in tracking their progress, knowing what skills to focus on in future lessons, and prepare each lesson.

Flexible Scheduling

We understand you have a busy schedule, therefore we offering flexible scheduling at our swim school. Whether you are signed up for a private lesson or a group lesson, we can accommodate make up sessions throughout the swim programs and have custom lesson plans to suite your needs. If unforeseeable events arise, we can accommodate with lessons in a future session or issuing a full refund.
