American Red Cross Emergency Medical Response Training Course Information
The American Red Cross offers a variety of training courses to help people learn emergency medical response skills. These skills can be used in a variety of situations, such as when responding to a natural disaster or during a medical emergency. The course is designed for people with little or no medical training, and it covers topics such as how to provide CPR, how to use an AED, and how to treat common injuries.
The course is divided into three parts: online learning, in-person skills sessions, and a final exam. The online learning portion of the course can be completed at your own pace and must be finished before attending the in-person skills sessions. The in-person skills sessions will be held at a local Red Cross chapter or affiliate, and you must complete all three sessions to receive certification. The final exam is taken online.
Online Learning
The online learning portion of the course is divided into four modules: Introduction to Emergency Medical Response, Basic First Aid, Managing an Emergency Medical Response Program, and Review and Final Exam. Each module must be completed before moving on to the next one. You will have access to the course materials for one year from the date of purchase.
In-Person Skills Sessions
The in-person skills sessions are where you will put your knowledge from the online course into practice. You will practice performing CPR, using an AED, and treating common injuries. These skills sessions are led by American Red Cross-certified instructors and will take place at a local Red Cross chapter or affiliate. You must complete all three sessions to receive certification.
Session 1: Basic Life Support Skills
Session 2: First Aid Skills
Session 3: Injury Prevention and Care
Part 3: Final Exam
Upon completion of the online modules and in-person skills sessions, you will take the final exam online. To pass the exam, you must achieve a score of 80% or higher. Once you have passed the exam, you will receive your certification from the American Red Cross.
